The western genre

In group discussion and development of ideas we have decided the genre of our film would be a twist of a western. To call it the genre of a western it must have aspect of a western and give the impression we want. To have this effect the film must be able to make sense by having  an excellent understanding of film language to give an effect that will engage the audience and using the best ways of making the film run smoothly and seamless editing all while the action of the film is grabbing the attention the audience further.

The forms and conventions of a western often consist of a dessert or "wild west" vibe. Alongside gunfire. horse chases and quivering fingers by the side of a holstered gun. But we wanted to stray away from this and give a modern twist. with an original idea to keep the audience interested. and try to avoid to give the impression that we're just creating the good the bad and the ugly mark 2.0.

Product influence

From our story board we developed our idea with setting out to find inspiration and further ideas from existing productions and films and found what we decided for the villain in out production to be based on and “no country for old men” gave the best representation for the antagonist in our project. In this clip below it starts with a wide open desert scene with a secluded petrol station which straight off sets the effect which we would like to achieve. The villain has a different persona to ordinary film villains. Instead of big entrances and stereotypical behaviour. His expression stays the same throughout the conversation not breaking smile or frown hiding his obvious psychopathic nature. The shop keeper slowly showing his concern as he is confused and afraid of what the villain is going to do. This is what we would like the effect the villain in our production to have on the audience to add the sense of fear and mystery

AS Production Evaluation

From my first production i was able to extend and increase the vital aspects of media filming editing and planning. i feel like i have developed time keeping skills and organising myself to ensure multiple things can be completed in a short amount of time. The use of shots lists and filming calendars. i was able to keep up to date with filming and editing to ensure i met deadlines. Despite some difficulties we quickly worked out alternatives and ways to work round the difficulties we had. Coming into A2 and using hindsight i believe i will be more organised and able to keep a consistent work ethic throughout the coming year 

From the previous course I was able to learn a lot about film language including camera shots, angles and movement. that i felt was able to help me with my production as I was able to apply it when filming, I feel that my product as a whole was good as it included a variety of camera shots and angles but because of the lack of equipment available and the use of a tripod the film lacked camera movement which could of made my production far more advanced. To improve my current level of media production i will ensure i use more complex camera movement and try to include some special effects and more cinematic treatment to create a far more advanced piece. 

This production taught me the underestimation of the time required to edit a production even on a small scale which i will now go into A2 in an informed position. Now approaching my A2 I will apply everything learned from AS in order to make my future production as strong as possible 

The audiences that have seen my production has given very positive feedback. Communing of the advanced looking piece which has made me confident continuing into A2
